International Women's Day - My Thoughts

Taylor Aller - Mrs BC, Speaker

International Women’s Day — If I can be honest, it sounds a little intimidating.

As someone who is an advocate for women, who actually believes in community over competition, who strives for inclusivity and celebrating my lady friends—I’ve always felt a little shy around this holiday.

I’ve felt like I wasn’t enough.

Wasn’t woman enough, powerful enough, diverse enough, inclusive enough…

I’ve always felt shy about celebrating this outloud because I’ve always felt pressure to be small.

To be quiet and let the ‘big girls’ do it right. I’ve felt like I didn’t have anything to offer to make this day better. I’ve felt confused as to what to actually celebrate and how to even do it. (Seriously, is there pizza involved? What happens?)

And if I did have the courage to celebrate, I’ve always celebrated it from afar or without real action.

And this year, I’m changing that. I’m diving in. I think it’s time. All those feelings I have around who I am? I mustn’t be the only one feeling that. And if I can celebrate and take action for women, surely that could mean others like me can do it too!

So, hear me girl.

This year, you’re invited to action with me. (It’s going to be gooooood.)

Let’s ACTUALLY do something and celebrate this incredible day.

Here’s what’s going down:

To say I’m honoured and pumped to be the opening keynote speaker at the UBC’s Young Women In Business conference celebrating International Women’s Day is an understatement.

I’m pretty much over the MOON.

I love being able to speak as part of what I do for a living, but to do so at an event for women, by women, celebrating women?
Hello, I must be dreaming.

There will be two keynotes, open art exhibit, a chat corner and MORE.

My sister friend—Consider this your personal invite. Come and hang with us and The Young Women In Business UBC Chapter.

Here’s the details:
